Candlemass is a legendary Swedish doom metal band founded in 1984 in Upplands Väsby near Stockholm by bassist and songwriter Leif Edling with drummer Matz Ekström. Renowned for defining the epic doom metal sound, the band gave the genre its name with their influential debut album Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. Candlemass is celebrated as one of the big four of doom metal alongside Pentagram, Saint Vitus, and Trouble. After several albums and extensive touring, the band experienced breakups but ultimately reunited and continues to have a lasting impact on heavy music with their powerful and atmospheric style.
