King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are a rock band from Melbourne, Australia, formed in 2010. The group is led by Stu Mackenzie and includes Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Harwood, and Michael Cavanagh. Renowned for their energetic live performances and prolific output, the band is known for experimenting with a wide range of genres, from psychedelic and garage rock to jazz fusion, folk, heavy metal, and synth-pop. Their early work combined surf and garage rock influences, while later albums explored complex concepts, including microtonal music and an interconnected narrative known among fans as the Gizzverse. The band frequently releases multiple albums in a single year, most notably releasing five in both 2017 and 2022. Their 27th album, Phantom Island, was released in 2025.
