Yamaha CLP-835 R — A Concert Grand Experience at Home

The Yamaha CLP-835 R is a Clavinova console digital piano finished in matte rosewood, built for pianists who want grand-piano touch and tone at home. GrandTouch-S keyboard action, GrandTouch pedals, and Grand Expression Modeling translate finger pressure into vivid sound. Binaural CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial samples, dual headphone outputs, and a built-in stereo speaker system deliver an authentic acoustic-piano experience through speakers or in silence.

What Sets the CLP-835 R Apart in the Clavinova Lineup

Grand Expression Modeling simulates the interplay of hammers, strings, dampers, and soundboard, so subtle changes in attack and release reshape the tone. Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) calculates sympathetic resonances across all 88 notes in real time, reproducing the body reverberation of a real grand. The GrandTouch-S keyboard's escapement — the subtle "click" unique to acoustic grands — completes a playing feel that responds like an instrument, not a switch.

GrandTouch-S Keyboard — Authentic Weighted Action

The GrandTouch-S mechanism delivers a graded, weighted feel across the full range. Synthetic ebony and ivory keytops absorb moisture and provide grip during long sessions, while the escapement gives tactile feedback at the start of each press.

• Keys: 88 — full concert range
• Keyboard Technology: GrandTouch-S — graded hammer action with synthetic ebony and ivory keytops and authentic escapement
• Touch Sensitivity: Hard2 / Hard1 / Medium / Soft1 / Soft2 / Fixed — six response curves

CFX and Bösendorfer Voices with Binaural Sampling

The tone generator draws on flagship Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial concert grand samples, captured at multiple velocities for smooth dynamic transitions. Binaural sampling on both flagship voices recreates spatial cues through headphones, reducing ear fatigue during late-night sessions.

• Polyphony: 256 notes — sustains dense passages and layered voices without dropouts
• Preset Voices: 38 — including CFX, Bösendorfer Imperial, fortepiano, electric pianos, strings, organs
• Binaural Sampling: CFX Grand and Bösendorfer — natural 3D sound through headphones

Built-In Sound System and Triple-Pedal Control

Two 16 cm drivers with diffusers project a wide, room-filling soundstage without external monitors. Three GrandTouch pedals — damper with half-pedal, sostenuto, and soft — replicate the layout of an acoustic grand, while Bluetooth audio and MIDI enable cable-free connection to the Smart Pianist app.

• Built-in Speakers: 16 cm with diffuser × 2 — multi-amp stereo system
• Amplifier Output: 30 W × 2 — fills a medium room without external amplification
• Pedals: 3 (Damper with half-pedal, Sostenuto, Soft) — GrandTouch Pedal technology
• Headphone Outputs: 2 × standard stereo phone jack — silent duet practice

Ideal for Serious Students, Returning Pianists, and Home Performers

Advancing students and adult players who want a console-style instrument with grand-piano action at home will find the Yamaha CLP-835 R a compelling match. Its 88 weighted keys, 256-note polyphony, and triple-pedal layout support classical repertoire and silent practice through dual headphone jacks. Built-in metronome, 20 rhythm patterns, and 303 lesson songs create a complete practice station, while Bluetooth and the Smart Pianist app extend its usefulness for streaming, recording, and guided learning.

Four Decades of Clavinova Development

Yamaha has built acoustic pianos since 1900, and the Clavinova line has been refined over four decades of digital-piano development. The CLP-835 R draws on samples from flagship Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial concert grands — instruments found on premier stages worldwide — paired with action engineering informed by the company's acoustic-piano craftsmanship.
