Vader is a death metal band from Olsztyn, Poland, formed in 1983 by Piotr Wiwczarek and Zbigniew Wróblewski. After starting with traditional heavy metal, they shifted towards thrash and speed metal before becoming one of the leading names in Polish death metal. Wiwczarek remains the band’s driving force through numerous lineup changes. Since 2022, the lineup features Wiwczarek on guitar and vocals, Marek Pająk on rhythm guitar, Tomasz Halicki on bass, and Michał Andrzejczyk on drums. Vader took nine years to release their debut album The Ultimate Incantation and have since released twelve studio albums. The band’s name is inspired by Darth Vader from Star Wars, and their lyrics often explore themes from horror, science fiction, and history. By 2002, Vader had sold around half a million records worldwide.
