The War on Drugs is a rock band from Philadelphia formed in 2005 by Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile. After Vile left to pursue a solo career, Granduciel continued as the group’s primary songwriter and central figure. The band is known for its atmospheric sound, blending guitar-driven rock with lush, layered arrangements. Their debut album, Wagonwheel Blues, appeared in 2008. Over the years, they have expanded their lineup to include David Hartley, Robbie Bennett, Charlie Hall, Jon Natchez, Anthony LaMarca, and Eliza Hardy Jones. With the release of Lost in the Dream in 2014, the band gained widespread acclaim for its introspective songwriting and expansive production. In 2017, The War on Drugs released A Deeper Understanding, which won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. Their most recent album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore, was released in 2021, further establishing their reputation for crafting emotionally resonant, modern rock music.
