The Oak Ridge Boys are an acclaimed American vocal quartet known for their rich harmonies and blend of country and gospel music. Formed in 1943, the group started as Wally Fowler and the Georgia Clodhoppers before becoming The Oak Ridge Quartet. They found early success in Southern gospel before shifting to contemporary gospel and then mainstream country in the 1970s. Their most famous lineup—Duane Allen (lead), William Lee Golden (baritone), Richard Sterban (bass), and Joe Bonsall (tenor)—is behind major hits like Elvira, Bobbie Sue, and American Made. Over the years, the group has seen some lineup changes, most recently with Ben James joining as tenor in late 2023. The Oak Ridge Boys are celebrated for their enduring legacy and versatile sound, bridging gospel roots and popular music.
