Nine Inch Nails is a pioneering American industrial rock band formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1988 by Trent Reznor, who remains the band's central figure as a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. Atticus Ross, a longtime collaborator, officially joined as a full member in 2016. Known for blending aggressive electronic sounds with rock, the band released its influential debut album Pretty Hate Machine in 1989, followed by the acclaimed and commercially successful records The Downward Spiral and The Fragile. Over the years, Nine Inch Nails has evolved its sound while building a reputation for intense, visually striking live performances. The band has seen lineup changes but consistently features Reznor and Ross, with regular contributors Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini, and Ilan Rubin. Nine Inch Nails has sold over 20 million records, earned multiple Grammy Awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
