Klaus Nomi

Klaus Nomi

Klaus Nomi (January 24, 1944 – August 6, 1983) was a German countertenor famous for his extraordinary vocal range and strikingly theatrical stage presence. Active in the New York East Village scene during the 1970s, he became known for his futuristic costumes, dramatic makeup, and unique hairstyle. Nomi’s music blended electronic interpretations of opera with eclectic covers of 1960s pop, and he gained wider attention as a backing singer for David Bowie on Saturday Night Live in 1979.
