Grandaddy is an indie rock band from Modesto, California, formed in 1992 by Jason Lytle, Aaron Burtch, Jim Fairchild, Kevin Garcia, and Tim Dryden. Known for blending melodic songwriting with atmospheric production, most of the band’s music was crafted in Lytle’s home studios. After early independent releases, they signed with V2 Records and gained acclaim with albums like The Sophtware Slump. Grandaddy initially split in 2006, reunited in 2012, and released the album Last Place in 2017. The group paused following the passing of bassist Kevin Garcia in 2017. In 2024, Lytle revived Grandaddy for the album Blu Wav, with a major tour planned in 2025 to celebrate the legacy of The Sophtware Slump.
