Daniel Barenboim

Daniel Barenboim, born in 1942, is an acclaimed Argentine-Israeli pianist and conductor, currently based in Berlin and also holding Spanish and Palestinian citizenship. He served as general music director of the Berlin State Opera and led the Staatskapelle Berlin orchestra from 1992 to 2023. Barenboim has held major directorships with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, and La Scala in Milan. He is renowned for co-founding the West–Eastern Divan Orchestra, bringing together young Arab and Israeli musicians, and for his outspoken views on the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. Barenboim has received numerous awards, including seven Grammys, the honorary title of Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and top honors from France, Germany, and Spain. He is fluent in several languages, including English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, and Spanish.
