Basix PS801111 14" x 6.5" Steel Snare Drum — Classic Crack, Accessible Price

The Basix PS801111 is a 14" x 6.5" steel-shell snare drum from the DC Classic line, built for drummers who want the bright, cutting attack of a metal snare without flagship pricing. Its chrome-over-steel shell delivers the sharp crack and fast decay that have made metal snares a studio and stage standard for decades. Ships ready to play with a coated REMO batter head already mounted and tensioned at the factory.

What Makes This Snare Stand Out

Two design choices set this model apart in the entry-to-mid tier. The 9-ply steel shell gives the drum more rigidity and a tighter, more controlled response than thinner single-ply metal shells. Ten tension rods per side provide finer tuning resolution, so players can dial in a precise snap across the entire head without dead spots.

Specs That Shape the Sound

Shell material, ply count, and dimensions define how a snare responds under the stick. Steel is the brightest common shell material, and the 9-ply build adds stiffness that focuses the attack.

• Series: DC Classic
• Shell Material: Steel with chrome finish — delivers a bright, projecting tone with strong attack that cuts through any mix
• Ply Count: 9 plies
• Diameter: 356 mm (14") — the standard snare size used across rock, pop, and fusion
• Depth: 165 mm (6.5")
• Batter Head: Coated REMO — factory-mounted for immediate playability right out of the box
• There are 10 tension rods per side to ensure even tension and precise tuning across the head.

Ideal for Beginners, Students, and Working Drummers

The PS801111 is the right choice for beginner and intermediate drummers who need a reliable, great-sounding snare on a budget. It suits students working through their first rudiments, gigging drummers needing a durable backup, and home players wanting a flexible drum for rock, pop, funk, and worship. Its 14" x 6.5" size is the most common configuration taught in lessons and used on stages worldwide.
