Fender American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline – Legendary Feel, Iconic Tone

The American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline MN Candy Apple Red revives a historic Fender design for today’s discerning player. This model meticulously recreates the features that defined the early '70s Thinline Tele: a semi-hollow ash body for lightness and warmth, a period-accurate 1972 "C"-shape maple neck, and specially voiced CuNiFe Wide-Range humbucking pickups. Every element, from the gloss polyurethane finish to the vintage hardware, is chosen to deliver legendary Telecaster character.

Guitarists searching for a genuine mix of vintage looks, tone, and tactile response often gravitate toward the American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline.

Unique Features That Define This Telecaster

Standing out from modern reissues, the Thinline revives CuNiFe Wide-Range humbuckers—crafted from a rare alloy to reproduce the signature sound lost for decades. Coupled with a semi-hollow ash body and bold 4-ply pearloid pickguard, it offers a distinctive visual and an airy, resonant tone rarely matched by solidbody models.

Body & Hardware: Resonance and Stability

By using era-accurate materials and build techniques, this instrument achieves both authentic looks and a lively sound. The semi-hollow ash body balances punchy mids and inviting resonance. Sustain and tuning accuracy are further supported by the pure vintage 6-saddle string-through bridge with bent steel saddles.

  • Body Material: Semi-hollow ash — delivers clarity, brightness, and reduced weight for gigging.
  • Bridge: Pure Vintage 6-saddle string-through, bent steel saddles — maximizes sustain and tuning stability.
  • Players also benefit from the 4-ply aged white pearloid pickguard, which offers both protection and an unmistakable aesthetic touch.

Neck & Playability: Classic Feel, Modern Precision

Comfort is assured with the 1972 "C"-shaped maple neck, vintage tall frets, and 7.25" (184 mm) fingerboard radius. These features support expressive bends and fluid chord work reminiscent of the best '70s instruments.

  • Neck Shape: 1972 "C" — ergonomic and period-accurate for familiar hand feel.
  • Fingerboard Radius: 184 mm — vintage curvature for classic playability.
  • Frets: 21 vintage tall — improved note bending and articulation.

Electronics: Vintage-Voiced Versatility

CuNiFe Wide-Range humbuckers bring a palette of tones, from bell-like warmth in the neck position to sharp, articulate attack at the bridge. Expanded tonal flexibility is supported by 3-way switching and 1 Meg potentiometers, ensuring clarity in any ensemble.

  • Pickups: CuNiFe Wide-Range humbucking (neck & bridge) — period-correct clarity and punch.
  • The control layout includes master volume, master tone, and a 3-way blade switch for quick tonal adjustments during performance.

Who Will Love This Guitar?

Fans of vintage Telecasters who value authentic tone, classic aesthetics, and top-tier craftsmanship will find the American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline rewarding in any playing environment. The lighter build appeals to those seeking stage comfort, while the tonal range fits genres from classic rock to indie and alt-country. It is a preferred choice among players who want heritage sound without sacrificing playability.

Fender’s Heritage, Your Signature Sound

As part of the American Vintage II series, this instrument reintroduces hallmark Fender innovations: the original Wide-Range humbuckers, a six-saddle hardtail bridge, and the signature semi-hollow profile. Designed for musicians ready to leave their own legacy, it celebrates the spirit of 1970s Fender ingenuity.

This is an awesome guitar. Excellent finish and cunife-pickups sound amazing. The neck profile and fingerboard radius are one of the bests I have been playing. Not the cheapest option but definitely worth of the money.

(For English version see below) Es gibt zwei signifikante Kritikpunkte: 1) der originale Fender Koffer: der orange-farbene Bezug verliert Fasern in Unmengen. -- There are two significant points of criticism: 1) the original Fender case: the orange-colored cover sheds fibers in vast quantities. The fibers stuck to the guitar everywhere and were difficult to remove. I don't want to put the guitar back in the case 2) The nut is filed completely crooked. The spacing of the treble strings is very irregular. I have to remove the nut and replace it with a new one. Conclusion: I should have sent the guitar back. But it was too much work for me and it was the last guitar of this kind available at Muziker. I will therefore take care of the problems myself.
