The Beat, also known as the English Beat in North America and the British Beat in Australia, are an influential English band formed in Birmingham in 1978. Blending elements of ska, reggae, punk, pop, Latin, and soul, the group quickly became known for their infectious and energetic sound. The classic lineup featured Dave Wakeling, Ranking Roger, Andy Cox, David Steele, Everett Morton, and Saxa. In the early 1980s, they released three acclaimed albums— I Just Can't Stop It, Wha'ppen, and Special Beat Service —and enjoyed hits like Mirror in the Bathroom, Save It for Later, and Hands Off She's Mine, leaving a lasting mark on the British music scene.
