Simple Minds are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1977, originally under the name Johnny and the Self-Abusers. They began performing as Simple Minds in early 1978, led by long-standing members Jim Kerr on vocals and Charlie Burchill on guitar. The band found early success with their 1981 album Sons and Fascination, but achieved their international breakthrough with New Gold Dream in 1982. Known for hits like "Promised You a Miracle," "Alive and Kicking," and the iconic "Don't You Forget About Me," which topped charts around the world, Simple Minds became one of the most commercially successful Scottish bands of the 1980s. Their albums Sparkle in the Rain, Once Upon a Time, and Street Fighting Years all cemented their reputation with strong chart performances in the UK and abroad. The current lineup features Kerr and Burchill alongside Ged Grimes, Cherisse Osei, Sarah Brown, Gordy Goudie, and Erik Ljunggren. Over the years, the band has received numerous awards and nominations, including the Q Inspiration Award, an Ivor Novello Award, and several MTV and Brit Award nominations. Simple Minds continue to tour and release new music, maintaining a lasting influence on the rock and new wave scenes.
