Elvin Jones

Elvin Ray Jones (September 9, 1927 – May 18, 2004) was a groundbreaking American jazz drummer best known for his work with the John Coltrane Quartet from 1960 to 1965. He played on landmark albums including My Favorite Things and A Love Supreme. After leaving Coltrane’s group, Jones led his own bands, most notably The Elvin Jones Jazz Machine. His brothers Hank and Thad were also renowned jazz musicians, and they occasionally collaborated. Widely regarded as one of the most influential drummers in jazz history, Jones was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1995 and ranked among Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time.
